Terms of Competition
2022 Four-Ball Championship
Rockland GC | September 17-18
ELIGIBILITY
The Four-Ball Championship is open to all Maine resident amateur golfers. All competitors must play at an MSGA member club and have a Handicap Index® from that club on or before the date they submit their application.
ENTRY INFORMATION
All sides must file an entry for the championship. Players must apply for the championship online at www.mesga.org. Entries will not be taken over the phone.
The field is limited to 60 sides. If the event is oversubscribed before the application deadline, the 60 sides with the lowest combined handicap index will be used to determine the field. Sides do not need to consist of players belonging to the same club. Substitutions will be allowed as long as the substituted player meets the eligibility requirements prescribed above.
Cost: The entry fee for the championship is $240 per side.
Entry deadline: September 7, 2022 at 11:59 pm.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
The championship will consist of two 18-hole rounds of four-ball stroke play. Players will play their own ball, with the lower score counting for each hole as the team score.
Saturday, September 17: First round, 18 holes
Sunday, September 18: Second round, 18 holes
In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole playoff.
PRIZES
Winner: Crystal trophy for each member of the side.
Top finishers: Prize money, determined by finishing position for GROSS and NET winners, in the form of a voucher added to their MSGA account.
RULES OF GOLF
All play will be governed by The Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA, except as modified by Local Rules. The on-site Rules Committee will have the final authority on all rulings. The competition is deemed to be closed when the trophy is awarded to the champion.
TRANSPORTATION
Players will be allowed to use motorized carts in the championship. Carts may be limited at certain sites, so players should plan accordingly. Payment for cart rentals is made to the host club. No more than two carts are allowed in a pairing.
WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY
Advanced entry fees will be refunded regardless of reason if the MSGA is notified before the close of entries. The MSGA will refund all of the entry fee, less $5, to cover processing fees and associated costs. Refunds of entries made by credit or debit card will be applied to the same card used for payment. After the close of entries, fees will be refunded only if the tournament remains full or in the event of injury or illness. No refunds will be given after the start of the tournament. Unusual circumstances will be considered individually and are at the discretion of the MSGA.
STARTING TIMES
After the application deadline, starting times will be posted at www.mesga.org, as well as emailed to all players in the field. Starting times will be made public no less than four days before the tournament begins.
